About Us Mayanja Memorial Hospital

Mayanja Memorial is a private hospital that has been established in Mbarara District to compliment government effort in the delivery of health services to the people. It was founded by Dr. Mugerwa Benon, and named in memory of his late father, Mayanja Martin Luther, who had left a will which had compelled the founder to set up a hospital.

In November 2003, the Hospital started functioning with an in patient capacity of 100 beds and Theatre. It serves Southern Uganda, Northern Tanzania, Rwanda and Eastern Congo, and is situated 2km from Mbarara town along Mbarara – Masaka highway on Nyamityobora Hill.

The hospital has an Out-patient Department, In-patient Department and Community Outreach Department called Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation. The community outreach Department carries out community outreach activities to over 18 subcounties in three districts of Isingiro, Kirihura and Mbarara with a population of over a million people.

The hospital has since then excelled in delivering quality health care services, and has even won a gold award of the best investor of the year 2004 in the medium scale category by the Uganda Investment authority.

The unit is fully computerized to swiftly capture information pertaining to both accounts and patients attending at the unit. We have a database for all our clients especially those accessing HIV/AIDS services for proper management. We have Internet services that provide us with current information.

Within the three (3) years of operation, there have been over 25,000 outpatients, 4,500 investigations carried out, 5,400 clients admitted, over 1,000 patients operated upon and 1,500 mothers delivered. This means that the hospital has complimented government efforts towards health services delivery by being able to decongest the government health units in the area
